Blink & You'll Miss It

For a while now I have been trying to figure out how to put how I feel into words and honestly couldn't, simply because I wasn't ready to admit it was over. Just like that, two years is coming to an end and on the 20th of July I had my last day as a Teaching Assistant at Linden Lodge School through Vibe Teacher Recruitment. It's funny because for the last two years I have been in a teaching role but I have learned fair more from my students than I could have ever taught them. I have worked with all age groups (primary, secondary, etc.) and each group has taught me something new. Collectively, they have taught me patience, perseverance, awareness, flexibility, versatility and so much more. I have had experiences that are beyond imaginable and had access to training that has made me so much better at what I do. Having post secondary education in this field, and failing to get a job back home, I questioned everything coming into the role. "Is this what I want to spend my life doing?" "Is this the right place for me?" "What if I'm not good at it?" My knowledge of visual impairments as well as multiple other disabilities has grown exponentially and I can't believe I ever questioned the path I chose for myself. As well as all of the wonderful traits my students taught me, they also taught that I can't imagine myself in any other role and that alone is the biggest win. Over the last two years, I have met some of the most wonderful people, some of which I now consider family. I was one of the lucky ones that got to work alongside their friends every day. I can't imagine these two years without you and will miss you all so much. It was a bittersweet end but I am ready to see what the next chapter has to offer. My visa expires in early September and I’m preparing for my move back home. Who knew you could accumulate so much stuff in two quick years! Packing has been bittersweet and stressful but I am very excited to see what my future holds. Before I move home and my next chapter begins, I am going on a five week travel adventure with my friend Brianna who is also moving to Canada after our travels! We will be visiting Egypt, Morocco, Greece, and Croatia and I will do my best to keep everyone updated as often as possible. I’m so excited for what the next five weeks have in store and can’t wait to see everyone back home on the other side of it all! “Travel makes one modest, you see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” — Gustave Flaubert
