Home Away From Home

It's been three weeks and part of me still can't believe this is real! I've done things in the last three weeks that were only a figment of my imagination six months ago. I moved out of the home I grew up in and I rented my first apartment, or as I like to call it, my glorified closet. I've overcome battles that I thought were going to defeat me. I've learned that being alone is the best way to find yourself.
They always said that the world doesn't stop for anyone and the more time passes between when this adventure started and where I am now, the more that comes true. This weekend marks the first holiday I will miss with my family. My family means the world to me and it breaks my heart to not be there celebrating Thanksgiving with them. In the spirit of thanksgiving, here are a few things that I am truly thankful for.
1. I am very thankful for my friends & family. Although there are currently 5,677km between us and a 5 hour time difference, they are the only reason I am here today. When I got the offer to move to London, they were the ones encouraging me to take this leap of faith and make dreams become realities. They have been my rock through it all.
2. I am very thankful that I was born in a time where this adventure is a possibility for me as a young, single woman. I am thankful for those who put their lives on the line all those years ago to make opportunities like this, a reality. They made what was once thought to be impossible possible
3. I am thankful for the existence and development of technology that allows me to communicate with friends and family back home and share this experience with them. I don't think I would be sane without the ease of communication. I would also like to thank technology for the fact that its existence, is the only reason I have yet to get lost in this very large city.
This week I finally got the urge to go out and explore! I went to Victoria Park earlier in the week and saw the first clean water drinking fountain in East London. Today I went to Westminster city and saw it all! Big Ben, The London Eye, Westminster Abbey, St. James Park, Buckingham Palace, the Canada Memorial in Green Park, the Wellington Arch and various war memorials from around the world. Today was the day, I finally felt good about my new life and I can not wait to start working!
